If you’d like to purchase or lease an EV, the team at Stivers Ford Montgomery encourages you to compare the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs 2023 Tesla Model 3. It isn’t a perfect comparison. After all, the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a crossover SUV whereas the 2023 Tesla Model 3. That said, the Model 3 is Tesla’s most affordable vehicle and in a price range comparable to the Ford model. Tesla offers the Model 3 is three core configurations, which include a base trim, Long Range and Performance. Ford offers its model in five loadouts: Select, Premium, California Route 1, GT and GT Performance.
The first thing to note when comparing the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E vs 2023 Tesla Model 3 is, as mentioned, the Mustang Mach-E is a compact crossover whereas the Model 3 is a compact sedan. Both have four doors, but the Ford has a rear liftgate whereas the Tesla has a trunk. The ground clearance of the Mustang Mach-E is 5.7 inches compared to 5.5 inches with the Tesla. The wheelbase and length of the Ford model are 117.5 inches and 186.0 inches, respectively. That’s 15.5 feet exactly. The wheelbase and length of the Tesla is 113.2 and 184.8 inches. Aluminum wheels are standard. Tesla offers 18- and 20-inch wheels. Ford offers 18-, 19- and 20-inch wheels.
Both the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E available at the Stivers Ford Montgomery and 2023 Tesla Model 3 are five-passenger vehicles, but there are some notable differences that we believe are in favor of the Mustang Mach-E. It provides more than 43 inches of front legroom or 0.6 more than the Tesla. It also provides more than 38 inches of rear legroom. That’s about 3 inches more than the Tesla. There’s also more headroom in the back seat in the Mustang Mach-E, and we think that makes it a more comfortable experience for adults. The Model 3 trunk is impressive at almost 20 cubic feet. But the Mustang Mach-E provides you about 30 cubic feet of dedicated cargo space and, of course, more convenient access.
For many drivers choosing between the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E and 2023 Tesla Model 3, EPA-estimated range will be a focal point. The least range offered by any Mustang Mach-E is the AWD version of the base trim at 224 miles, and the most is the California Route 1 at 312 miles. The least amount of range offered by Tesla is the RWD drive base trim at 272 miles, and the most is the AWD Long Range at 358 miles.
Tesla is known for its advanced technologies, but one of the ways it has made the Model 3 so affordable is that it does include much of what is include with the Model Y, for instance. In fact, the base package for the Mustang Mach-E is far more robust with Tesla only including its 15-inch touch screen—the Ford has a 15.5-inch touch screen—and its Autopilot tech, which isn’t actually autopilot and just a fancy name for its adaptive cruise control system with forward collision mitigation. Enhanced Autopilot is available, and Ford includes its BlueCruise system with the California Route 1 and up.
